Human Resource Policies

1. Manpower determination – a competent Janitor can clean a specific number of square feet per hour effectively. Based on the total square footage, experience and work to be performed, we set the appropriate staff levels to the account.
2. Recruiting Criteria – we have two sources of quality individuals. The first is through an in-house referral system and the second is through our applicant file. All potential employees are interviewed, references checked and security clearances obtained before they proceed to the training process.
3. Staff training – each potential employee gets introduced to a work crew that performs extra work, such as steam cleaning, floor refinishing etc. performing low skill level tasks. If that person is deemed to possess sufficient aptitude and work ethic to continue with our company, they are put into a training environment. This consists of a three day, job specific, supervised, “hands on training”. If they demonstrate a shortfall in ability, they receive continual training until we are satisfied they can perform their duties.
4. Supervisory training – supervisors must have a certain level of field experience (at least 2 years) where they have demonstrated responsibility, competence, interpersonal leadership and management skills. Potential supervisors start by heading a small work crew (3-5 people) with a specific task. After a one-year proving stage, they are elevated and retained as a supervisor, or given regular duties again.
5. Salary administration – each employee is covered by workers compensation and employment insurance benefits. Unpaid holidays are given at a maximum of one month per annum. Our base rate of pay is above industry standard, giving us a stable and committed employee base. Incentive pay raises are given to people based on their seniority and job performance. Specialized courses are made available to interested employees.
6. Number of staff per supervisor – there are twenty-five employees per supervisor.

Metro Cleaning Company maintains a janitor and cleaning company warehouse and equipment repair facility to ensure that our client’s chemical, paper and equipment needs are well serviced. Metro Cleaning Company maintains sufficient on-hand inventory levels of all required chemicals to ensure that our clients are not affected by distribution shortages.

Equipment Strategy

All equipment operated by Metro Cleaning Company must adhere to generally approved safety and performance requirements. All of the equipment utilized by Metro Cleaning is subjected scheduled, regular maintenance and inspection.

Metro Cleaning is committed to guaranteeing backup and “hot-swap” equipment to ensure that client cleaning schedules are not affected in the event of equipment failure or extended maintenance.

All staff have access to the spare equipment pool 24 hours a day and 7 days per week to ensure your janitor service is continuous.

Emergency response

Contact persons are given the 24-hour emergency response phone number of our supervisors. These are pager and cellular numbers and are always accessible. We have a detailed inventory of our equipment, therefore, any additional equipment that might be required in an emergency, is quickly accessed. This ensures our janitors always have access to the resources they need to provide you with the best custodial service possible.

Workplace Safety Program

Metro Cleaning Company Ltd. maintains an award-winning safety program. All employees are familiar with our commitment to safety. Rules of conduct, awareness of potential safety hazards, knowledge of chemicals and the safe operation of electrical equipment is our priority when at the work site. Our janitors and employees are trained with standard fire extinguishers and chemical spill clean up procedures. The safety manual is readily available to each janitor and our customers.

Quality Assurance Program

Contract locations are inspected against a list of job responsibilities. Any shortcomings are pointed out and rectified promptly. Failure to do so is followed by a written warning. If after receiving two written warnings the situation is unresolved, the employee is dismissed.

Miscellaneous

Security / Key control / Lost and found

All members of our staff are required to submit a security clearance form. Under no circumstances are unauthorized people allowed on a work site. Keys are given to responsible, proven individuals who are solely accountable for them.

Any items that are deemed lost or found (items of clothing, jewellery, etc.) left at a pre designated place are surrendered to supervisory staff, which then brings the item in the next day.
